At the start of this trip, it was a little filled with dread and I practically had to drag myself to work. Partly cos I dun really know the people on my flight, secondly, I was feeling that I wanna stay back in Singapore, cos I wanna apply for jobs and there are things tt I wanna do that I felt it would be better and more convenient if I stayed behind. Another reason would be the exposure of the video of what happen to my flight last month where there was a brawl regarding a passenger who was emotionally unstable and got drunk. It was on the Spanish news, I didn't know how it people would come across it, especially when its reported in a language which most Singaporeans wouldn't understand. The video wasn't all too flattering and the worse thing was, I didn't know what was being reported because it was all in something which I didn't understand. Unwanted fame, I would say. When my friend told me about it, I was like telling her, keep in down, don't spread it around pls.
Nonetheless, the power of the internet age was so evident that once I reached Frankfurt and I switched on my phone, I was flooded with smses regarding that video, from my friends who wanna know what happened and friends who were trying to verify if it was me. Only then, I realized that it appeared in the Singapore news too. My facebook was flooded too. Never mind, I brushed it aside and carried on with my plans to go sightseeing. The original plan was to visit the castle which Disney was modeled after in Neuschwanstein and go to Black Forest as well. But the weather wasn't too kind and its pretty cold and supposed to be snowing on the day that I wanted to make the trip on, so plans were changed when yiping told me I could make a day trip down to Heidelberg, its much nearer and its one of the most beautiful town in Germany as well. So I waited for Priscilla to touchdown as she was on her way back from New York, being her last flight, she wanna do some sightseeing as well.
Heidelberg was only 45 mins away from Frankfurt, it's a really beautiful small town divided into the new developments and the old town. The old town still retains its rustic feel with new shopping areas being integrated into the old houses. With the street musicians playing in the background as we trooped down the walkway, it really gave a very rustic touristy feel which u would get from watching travel documentaries. Wonderful feeling!!
We took a lot of photos along the way, had the most delicious Malaga ice-cream in winter. Freezing cold, and the ice-cream wouldn't melt, there were people looking at us as if we were mad to eat ice-cream in winter. There was the old castle of Heidelberg which was pretty rich in history, we were a little hard pressed for time cos Pris’ flight arrived late, so we missed the chance to go up into the castle. But walking around the town and viewing the castle tt was on top of the hill was a nice experience itself. We managed to find the old bridge that linked the scenic river bank and where all the representative pictures and postcards of Heidelberg was taken. We went snap happy and took a lot of pictures before heading back to Frankfurt.
Next day, I went with her to get some of her shopping done before meeting my set of crew for a meal and did some grocery shopping. Debbie, was on the flight, it was always fun when she is around and there is Daniel whom I worked with before and Jovi and Irene as well, who were good company. We found a lot of commons amongst us that we hanged out together the whole day, roaming the street, shopping, eating, chatting and sharing stories. It was good fun. The last surprise was that yiping managed to come back from London in time, she popped over to hotel and catch up with me even though she was so tired. She missed me the last 2 times when I was here, cos the first time, I didn't know she shifted to Frankfurt, the 2nd time, she was too busy with work to be able to meet. She really made it a point to meet this time and I really appreciate it a lot because most likely this could be my last Frankfurt flight cos of my plans to leave. We had a lot of fun catching up, discussing stuff and plans for the future. Its really good fun. I’m glad and grateful cos the last time I saw her in person was 10 years ago. We used to be so close back then where we see each other everyday in school in jc and in church. People’s life change when they took on different paths in life, sometimes, its just hard to catch up with people. Im grateful that im in this line cos I really get to see my friends overseas when I travel and all the sightseeing that I have done so far. I missed my old friends and especially someone like her whom I was so close to last time. I dunno when I will see her next, but I will make it a point to keep in contact with her. I will come back to Frankfurt once more just before I quit. Just once more. This has got to be my most fulfilling Frankfurt trip ever.
